She stopped beside him but moved slightly away, their sides no longer touching as she lowered her large head to graze. Lips picks daintly through the snow for the faint morsels of grass that had some how survived the horrid cold. She listened silently to him, her head tilted slightly towards him. His name was long and sounded quite strange to her. In her herd they named their foals for their coat colours, or markings or the land around them. She was called moonshine for her dark coat and silvery, golden mane. Also because she was born on a full moon. When she heard he was six, she almost started up. But forced herself to quieten since he was continuing anyway. Six wasn't that old. But certainly not what she had expected. But then, what did she expect? He was very mature after all. She was to busy mulling over what he had said to hear anything strange. Winter was always difficult for her when she visited the forests, for snow was always dropping from trees and making loud thumps. If she spooked at every noise she'd be a very stressed mare indeed. Out on the plains, you could see some distance away and know that you were safe. Moonshine raised her head in any case when he said he heard something. She figured to was a branch snapping under the weight of the snow. It was unnerving though not being able to see as far ahead as she was used to. Valiant seemed to relax though and asked her a question. Waiting a moment with ears pricked, she double checked her doubts. Sensing nothing, she returned to the conversation. "I am no sure. Until I get bored or feel like company." She flicked her tail aimlessly, looking at him silently then and without expression. Her ears swiveled about though, she was starting to feel very unsure.

Valiant picked up the mares unsureness, and backed off a bit on the questions, he was just so eager to talk to her and get to know her, he wanted to ask so many things and get really close, but they hadnt known each other for long Valinat realised, so he thought, well no wonder she is nervous.
Valiant relaxed more to help the mare feel more safe. He didnt like her feeling scared because it was never nice. "Would you like to walk some more?, you could show me around if you like, i dont know much of this land." Valiant gazed at the mare, she still had her head down , nibbling on small pieces of grass. "Spring is coming, i cannot wait, its always the best time of the year."
And with a smile on his face Valiant began to walk in the direction of north, he flicked his mane once again out of his eyes, as they glistened in the sun , which sprung from behind the darkened clouds. He looked back at the mare, waiting for her to follow "We dont have to walk far, there may be more food ahead....."

Lifting her finely chiseled head, the liver mare watched him start to leave. She waited a moment, eyeing off his movements, before picking up a two beat pace to catch up. Falling in at his shoulder, she wove through the trees this time, dodging between dark trunks and appearing around the other side next to him again. This continued for a few paces before she decided to play a game. As she came round the side of a knarled trunk, the young mare darted fowards and nipped the older stallion's shoulder. It was only a light nip, nothing to break the skin. She then twisted around another tree and away, laughing playfull as she went. Moonshine wasn't sure why she did this. He was older and another breed. He was just so nice and mature, she felt like seeing his more playful side. Her only hope was no other quarter horses would show. Either from her mother's herd or the king's herd. She would no doubt get a beating. Ignoring these ideas, she prepared to dodge around a tree should Valiant decide to retaliate against her little bite.

Valiant appeared stratled at the mares little nip, at first he thought what had he done wrong, but soon realised the mares playfulness had come out. He liked this side, it was cheeky and friendly, reminded himself of a younger him.
Valiant watched the mare dart behind a tree, he wrinkled his forehead upwards and took up his lip, he streatched out his teeth as to yawn, but instead smiled at the mare. He trotted off out of sight, and snuck up on the mare, she seemed un suspecting of him, twigs broke ever so slightley, Valiant was creeping up, trying to be nice and slowly paced.
He leaped forward at the mare, nipping her ever so slightley, only enough for her to just notice, he grinned and showed his teeth cheekily. He bounded childishly behind a tree , although much to big to hide behind it, his hind quarters and rump stuck out like the holy grail. He poked his head aroung the corner of the trunk, un aware of his sticking out, the mare was no where to be seen, but Valiant knew somehow , she was hiding, and getting ready to spring....

She gave a small squeal at his nipped and ducked sideways. She hid behind her own tree, though bushes covered in snow hid her body from view. Lifting her dark head above the bushes she looked about for him. She noticed his large grey rump sticking out from behind a thick trunk and couldn't help but chuckle.
As silently as possible she slipped around behind him, using the tree and distance to hide her dark coat. She was having alot of fun. He had seemed a little shocked at first, but he got over it quickly, which was good. He was fun. Flicking her golden tassles from her eyes, she lowered her head and stalked towards the grey round rump. She noticed his head stick out looking for her and quickly spang forwards. She grabbed a mouthful of the grey hairs and yanked. Just as quickly she leapt sideways incase he kicked out.
Moonshine cantered off northwards, laughing as she went. Her mane glittered golden in the dappled light, her socked feet carrying her easily over the snow dusted ground. She didn't wait for him, he would follow, she knew that.

Just as surely as the sun would rise , Moonshine nipped Valiant, tearing out a chunk of fur, enough to leave a bald patch, but not enough to hurt him.
Valiant turned quickly as the mare took off, Valiant toor off after her, knowing he had to have the last bite. Valiant was running as fast as the mare, yet it seemed she was more aware of how to duck below the branches and creep over the twigs on the floor, Valint just broke everything in his path of destruction. He watched Moonshines tail flick occasionally out of behind a tree, that was the only way he knew where she was.
The trees began to lessen and the fallen twigs and branches ahead became less and less. Valiant knew this was his chance to catch up, he could'nt beat a horse in agility but perhaps flat out speed. A clearing slowly emerged, it got closer and closer, and Moonshines tail soon turned into a rump as her speed dropped back, but so did Valiants, he was tired, as they would be.
Valiant slowed to a steady trot, and eventually a slow walking pace. He waited for Moonshine to do the same.
They were in a large clearing, obviously usually covered in grass, but at the moment covered in snow. Valiant stood min the same spot waiting for moonshine, He knew that if she would come close enough he could get her.

Moonshine heard his beats slow and checked her own pace. With a flurry of snow, the mare put on the breaks and slid to a halt near the other side of the clearing against the treeline. She spun on her hind legs to face him quickly. She stood there somewhat definantly, head up and ears back slightly. Her tail flicked sharply, whipping her flank. She stood there watching him silently with a rather grim look on her face, but then grinned suddenly. She paced towards him, stepping round towards his left, the pretty dark chestnut started to circle him. "What is wrong, O' Valiant? Tired already?" She wasn't going to admit to him that her own full out gallop had tired her slightly. She could trot and canter for days, but only gallop so far. She was by this time behind him. Her tail lifted and she arched her neck proudly, still a show pony at heart.

Valiant heard the mare speak, she spoke very cheekily, yet gracefully.
Valiant trotted up to Moonshine, and sweetly flicked his mane across, he stared at her, then looked around, checking out the surroundings. "its very nice , out here, most of the snow, which blanketed the ground before is gone, i cannot wait for spring, iuts the best. Do you enjoy spring too?"
Valiant's hooves scraped the watery dirt around, making a small puddle of mud. The undulating terain, was all wet, and muddy.
The trees were growing greener and looked lovely, the sun came out from behind the clouds. "So, im guessing its foaling time?, mares are always stroppy around this time, with their young, but apart from that its the best time of the year."
"what are you gonna do this spring, while all the others are foaling?"
Valiant, turned his head on the side, as asking a question, his face was expressionless. He just stood in the same spot , opposite to moonshine, waiting for a reply.....

Tossing her fine golden mane the mare stepped lightly away from him, snorting softly at his words. What was he suggesting? While the other mares were foaling? How was she to know. She suddenly wasn't so sure on this stallion. Was he seeing her as just another brood mare? That was something she wouldn't stand for. She would settle down when she was ready. Ok, so she did expect to birth foals and live in a herd with other mares but she still thought of herself as an independant and to do as she pleased. Maybe even as a lead.
With a flick of her long tail the mare turned to face him, her ears twitched forwards and a slightly defiante look about her. Her head was held high and she stood square, each socked hoof in line. "What will I be doing when the other mares are foaling?" SHe asked with a hint of stiffness to her words. "I will be doing as I please!" She finished with another flick of her tail. Moonshin turned her shoulder to him and looked out to the trees. She should be leaving soon.

Valiant looked at the mare, as she had turned away, his left eye slightly crinkled and his once expressionless face filled with emotions. He was concerned, he didnt mean to upset the mare, or make her mad, he just wanted to make conversation, but this didnt really matter now.
"Sorry if i upset you, i didnt mean to,"
Valiant started thinking to himself if this was a good time to depart and leave the mare be, He spoke softly, questionning the mare as he spoke, "If you like, i will leave?"
Valiant trotted up behind the mare, and slowed into a smoot walk , he came up to her side, until he was paralell with her head, he turned and looked at her. His ears flinched and he looked moonshine in the eyes, "To tell you the truth, i havent been around company much lately" He had a small cheekiness in his voice, as to insult himself slighlty,
Valiant once again questioned the mare, "I will leave, if im hassling you," this time his voice was dead flat and did not change tone at any pont, he had an expressionless face as he stared at the mare, "I hope im not creeping you out or anyhthing, i just wanted to spend some time with you, as i have no other friends here" Valiant's dead toned voice remained, he awaited the mares reply....
